Storage
International moves rarely line up perfectly — a departure date decided by a lease ending, and an arrival date decided by when a new property becomes available, do not always match. Storage bridges that gap, so your move does not have to happen in a single, uninterrupted step.

We can arrange storage at origin, before your goods depart, or at destination, once they arrive but before your new address is ready — whichever fits your situation.
Storage is one of the simpler services we offer in concept, but it solves a genuinely common problem: very few moves have a move-out date and a move-in date that align perfectly, and trying to force them to align often costs more in stress and rushed decisions than the storage itself would.
When storage makes sense
Common situations include a lease ending before a new property is available, a sale completing ahead of the next purchase, or simply wanting time to sort out furnishings at the destination before everything arrives at once. It also comes up regularly for corporate relocations, where an employment start date is fixed well before permanent housing has been found.
Storage alongside groupage or dedicated transport
Storage works alongside either transport option — your goods can be collected, held, and later moved onward whether the rest of your shipment travels by shared load or dedicated transport. The transport plan and the storage plan are coordinated together rather than treated as two separate bookings.
How goods are handled in storage
Goods going into storage are packed and protected to the same standard as goods going straight to delivery, since sitting for weeks or months is, if anything, a more demanding test of packing quality than a direct journey. Furniture is protected against dust and moisture for the duration, not just for the transport leg either side of it.
Short-term versus longer-term storage
A short bridging period of days or a few weeks is the most common situation, but longer-term storage is also available — for example if you are between properties for an extended period, or waiting out a renovation. Pricing and arrangements scale with duration, so it is worth giving us a realistic estimate of how long you might need rather than assuming it will only ever be a short stopgap.
Storage for overseas moves
For sea freight and container moves specifically, storage often sits at the destination end — goods clear customs and arrive at port, but housing is not yet finalised. Rather than delaying the shipment itself while a property search continues, we hold goods in storage and deliver once your address is confirmed, which keeps the rest of your move on schedule.
What happens when you are ready for delivery
Once your new address is confirmed, we schedule delivery out of storage the same way we would schedule any other delivery — confirming access, timing, and whether you want unpacking as part of the service. There is no separate, more complicated process for goods coming out of storage versus goods travelling directly.

Storage — frequently asked questions
Can you store my goods at both ends of the move?
Yes, if needed — for example holding goods briefly before departure and again on arrival if your new address is not ready.
Is there a minimum or maximum storage period?
Storage can be arranged for as long as you need, from a short bridging period to a longer-term arrangement. Let us know your expected timeline when requesting a quote.
Are my goods packed differently if they are going into storage?
The same care applies regardless — protection against dust, moisture and general handling is built in whether goods go straight to delivery or sit in storage first.
Can storage be arranged at short notice?
Where possible, yes, though as with the rest of a move, more notice generally means more flexibility on timing and options.
Can I add storage to an already-booked move if my plans change?
In most cases yes, especially if you let us know as early as possible once your situation changes rather than close to your original delivery date.
What happens if my new property is delayed by several months?
Longer-term storage can be arranged for exactly this situation. Let us know a realistic estimate of the delay so we can plan and price accordingly rather than assuming a short bridging period.

“Our belongings needed temporary storage before we could move into our new home in Portugal. Having the storage and international transport arranged together made the entire process much easier.”
